ORAL MUCOCELE?

ORAL MUCOCELE?
The mucocele is a common lession of the oral mucosa involving salivary gland.
They result from:
*Traumatic severance of a salivary duct
*Produced by biting the lips or cheek
Hence leading to spillage of mucin into the surrounding tissues.
There is no know history of trauma in many cases.
This cyst lack epithelial lining hence they are not a true cyst.
There might be a history of rupture ,collapse and refilling which may be repeated.
The mucocele may lie deep in the tissue or exceptionally superficial.
Treatment of the mucocele is excission
If the lession is simply incised,it’s content will be evacuated but rapidly filled as soon as healed.
The excission should be given for microscopic examination to rule out the possibility of a salivary gland tumor.
